Im back! What a hassle lol, i had my Dsl updated from 16000 to 16000+ entertainment package (for those not in germany its a dtv reciever/video recorder) and although they said in the beginning it would only take 15 mins as i already had the 16000, something went wrong through no fault of mine, i had the correct hardware, so i had to have a service man here for 3 days back and forth until they found the mistake. Well all seems to be fixed now and wooohooo its fantastic. I can record programms on a hard drive to watch them later and also if im watching something and for example the telephone rings, you press a button and i can start watching the programm again where i left off, its called time-shift ... its amazing. Anyway it can do a lot more too but i wont go into the details (look it up lol) and it was worth it in the end.

Due to this of course i am now wayyy behind and im afraid i might not get to looking at all the devs from the last 4 days, sorry. Ill also probably be faving and running for a while till i get things sorted.

On another note, with all the "troubles" about stolen art ... i am encouraging sharing because i feel that allowing people to show my works with these buttons is a good way of making sure i get the credit. Id much rather have people use this to link back to me rather than them taking my images and uploading with no reference to me, and i really dont understand those who discourage this. These buttons still dont stop thieves, im aware of that, but at least some percentage will now just link back and others will land on my page here if they want to see more.

I have never allowed downloads of my works even at dA, unless someone asked me to, and i dont think that some of you realize .. if you dont want others taking your works, why on earth would you allow the download? and why in the world at such hi-res/large sizes? Ive said this many times, and different people have different reasons for doing it, but in my opinion you cant rant  afterwards if you do allow this.

These are my guidelines for trying to make it harder and more unsuitable for people to take without giving me credit:-
1. I do not allow downloads openly (if i have friends that would like them i send it to them per email)
2. I will watermark my works
3. I will not show my works larger than 800x600 (this is not usually a great size for a desktop or wallpaper and could put people off from taking them, but is an acceptable size imo here at dA for presenting them)
4. I frame my works and put my name on the frame (in future as well as the watermark )because some people dont have the knowhow or cant be bothered to remove it, which is in one way good because it helps to prove they are yours.

And with all due respect for the anger and frustration when you find your works on other sites that are not linked back to you, go through the proper channels and send an email to the admin with proof that they are yours. velvet-glove gave a great example of such an email velvet--glove.deviantart.com/j… (scroll down to comment from chris on first page of comments) that i adapted and used for the nexus site. This gets things removed much quicker and is a more professional way of doing things, rather than going to those people pages and harrassing them. And i will add while i feel for those who have had thier works taken and am also frustrated and angered when it happens to me, i will not take part in any rudeness, name calling or harrassing of the culprits. Its just not my way!

Here an example of the email i sent, you may adapt it to your own needs if you want to:-

I wish to report the unauthorized upload to your site of some of my original artworks
which I alone created and for which I hold the sole copyright.

The images in question are these

I do not allow downloads at deviantArt and do not wish that my images be download available on any other sites either. These users in question do not have my permission  to take my works and post them on your site.

There are many ways to try to stop, but it can't. But life can be made more difficult however in regards to rips. Unfortunate but it's happened in the past, happens today and will in future.

Still good advice and at can only try to do the best to protect.
